I grew up in a small town about 45 minutes outside of Baltimore. As a kid, I would visit the Inner Harbor on school field trips. We visited the Baltimore Aquarium and walked around for lunch and shopping.
There are many things to see and do in this exciting city. There are historic landmarks, museums, entertainment venues, an aquarium, and so much more. In this article, you will find a little history of Baltimore and explore activities that you, your friends, and your family will love.
First, a little history about Baltimore, Maryland. Baltimore was founded in 1729 by a group of English settlers led by William Fell. The city fastly grew during the 18th and 19th centuries, largely as a result of its location on the Chesapeake Bay. Baltimore became a major center of trade, with ships from all over the world docking in its harbor to unload their goods.
During the American Revolution, Baltimore played a role in the fight for independence. The city was home to numerous patriots, including Francis Scott Key, who wrote the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner” after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.
In the 19th century, Baltimore became a major industrial center, with factories producing everything from textiles to steel. The city was also home to numerous abolitionists and played a major role in the Underground Railroad, which helped slaves escape to freedom.
I don’t live in Maryland currently, but when I travel to Baltimore airport, to visit my family, I always try to visit downtown Baltimore and the Inner Harbor.
Below are a couple of highlights to explore.
Inner Harbor
One of Baltimore’s most popular attractions is the Inner Harbor, which is a bustling waterfront area that is home to numerous restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. Visitors can take a boat tour of the harbor, visit the National Aquarium, or explore one of the many museums or galleries located in the area. The Inner Harbor is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.
